Issue:
The build up of powder on paint hooks can melt onto products being coated and diminish the quality of the finish. Hooks need to be regularly cleaned or replaced.

Current Situation:
Hooks are cleaned by sub contractor using highly aggressive chemicals to break down the powder coat. Alternately, the hooks are replaced with new.

Objective:
Ability to regularly clean hooks in house without the use of aggressive chemicals or other potentially environmentally harmful products.

Improvement Initiative:
Install and commission a high temperature furnace which can burn off the build up of powder to a point that does not create environmentally harmfully outputs. Maintain a regular hook cleaning schedule. Plant expenditure is expected to be above $40,000.

Timing:
A suitable furnace has been procured with installation and commissioning scheduled for the end of February.

Measurement:
Reduction of items with poor quality powder coat finish and requiring re-coating. No requirement for sub-contracted cleaning. Reduced purchasing requirements for paint hooks.
